Two
research positions: Post Doctoral Research Associate and Senior Research
Technician Applications are invited for two
Research positions investigating mechanisms of synaptic plasticity in
interneurons, within the Department
of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy based at the Institute of
Neurology, Queen Square, under the supervision of Professor
Dimitri Kullmann. Post
1 - Post Doctoral Research Associate The purpose of this post is to
investigate the mechanisms of long-term plasticity in hippocampal and
cortical interneurons. The post involves electrophysiological and optical
methods to investigate long-term potentation in GABAergic interneurons. It is essential that candidates hold
a PhD in neuroscience, have experience of cellular electrophysiology and
research experience in whole-cell patch-clamp and/or live-cell fluorescence
microscopy. In addition, candidates should have knowledge of in vitro patch clamp
methods, an in-depth understanding of biophysics and quantitative methods and
a background in confocal or multiphoton fluorescence microscopy. The post is available from 1 October
2009 and is funded by by a grant from the European Research Council for 3
years. Starting salary on UCL Grade 7, range £28,839- £35,469 pa, according
to age and experience, plus £2,781 pa London Allowance, superannuable. Post
2 – Senior Research Technician This post involves histological
methods to characterise neurons with immunohistochemical and morphological
methods. It is essential that candidates have
experience of cellular neuroscience, research experience of neuroanatomical
methods, a background in neuroscience or cell biology, knowledge of
neuroanatomy, and histological expertise. The post is available from 1 October
2009 and is funded by by a grant from the European Research Council for 3
years. Starting salary on UCL Grade 7, range £28,839- £35,469 pa, according
to age and experience, plus £2,781 pa London Allowance, superannuable. Informal inquiries regarding the
posts can be directed to Professor Dimitri Kullmann
(d.kullmann[at]ion.ucl.ac.uk) using ‘Research position’ in the subject. Further details of the research
