- Description: The Latin American Collection within the University of London Library was formed as one of the designated centres of excellence resulting from the Report of the Parry Committee of the University Grants Committee on Latin American Studies (1965). From its inception the Collection was envisaged as filling the role of a regional and national resource.
Located on the 7th floor of the University Library, it is arranged in a single classified sequence for ease of access. It is primarily a research collection consisting of about 46,000 books and pamphlets published from the early 19th century to the present. Approximately 8,000 books and pamphlets pertinent to Caribbean Studies are held in the Collection and related areas, not including Special Collections. Most aspects of the Caribbean are covered, with particular emphasis on history, politics, economics, anthropology and literature. The Spanish-, French-, and Dutch-speaking Caribbean language zones are covered, as well as the English-speaking zone. Around 205 journals (current and non-current) are held, many of which have content of Caribbean import.
