- Title: University of Northumbria Library
- Description: University of Northumbria Library houses an interdisciplinary collection of c.550, 000 books and c3, 500 periodicals which have been acquired to support the teaching and research of the University. Substantial electronic resources, including c 4,500 e-journals, are also accessible via the library service. Although material on the Caribbean and the history of Black and Asian people in Britain does not feature strongly in the holdings of the University of Northumbria Library some relevant resources are distributed throughout the collection. With regard to Caribbean studies approximately 300 titles cover information about the Caribbean region, including c.70 titles on the political and social history of Cuba. With regard to the history of Black and Asian people in Britain there are c.1000 titles covering information on the sociology of ethnic minorities in Britain, race and employment, race and housing, race and health, race and the criminal justice system, multicultural education, immigration and asylum in the UK, cultural politics and religion. - Note: Newcastle Polytechnic (later University of Northumbria) was founded in 1969. Although the library has acquired substantial periodical holdings and older material to meet the teaching and research profile of the University, it is not an historical collection. The average age of loan stock is about 14 years.
