Title: Milton Keynes Central Library
Description: The Milton Keynes Central Library opened in 1981 and currently houses over 137,000 books and 16,700 audio-visual items. Stock relevant to the CASBAH subject areas includes:
  • current popular fiction by Black and Asian writers
  • popular non-fiction, such as major tourist guides; books on history, slavery and sociology; sport and entertainment biographies
  • books in some languages of the Indian sub-continent (e.g. small collections of Gujarati, Urdu and Hindi)
  • music CDs, including music from other cultures
  • videos, including some in Indic languages.

Through an arrangement with Buckinghamshire County Library Service, we have access to a reserve collection of older material, and to the current lending stock of Buckinghamshire Library Service.
With regard to Caribbean studies there are c.100 relevant popular fiction and non-fiction books and c.30 CDs. The main topics and themes covered in these resources include Caribbean literature, the history and cultural heritage of specific countries in the Caribbean region and tourism issues.
For Black and Asian history studies the stock includes c.50 relevant books, mainly fiction titles by Black and Asian writers and non-fiction books on topics such as the history of the slave trade, immigration and social policy, cultural diversity in Britain and religious studies. There are also c.50 relevant CDs in the World Music section.

Size: c.100 books on the Caribbean and c.50 books on the history and cultural heritage of Black and Asian peoples in Britain.
