Gateshead Central Library

Title: Gateshead Central Library
Description: The Central Library houses a general collection of resources to meet the educational, information and leisure needs of the people of Gateshead. Material on the history of Black and Asian peoples in the UK is integrated into the main 'Adult non-fiction' collection and covers topics and themes such as race relations in Britain, the history and cultural heritage of Britain's minority ethnic communities and religious studies. The library also has a growing collection of fiction and non-fiction books in Urdu.
With regard to Caribbean studies, the library has a small collection of general interest material on the history and geography of the Caribbean region (c.75 titles). Although the library does not have any special collections in these subject areas, the local history collection has some information about Gateshead's Black and Asian communities in the following reports:
