Title: IRR Printed Sources Collection
Description: The Institute of Race Relations library and resource centre provides information about racism, anti-racism and Black history throughout the world. The collection is divided into 5 main sections:
  • UK Book Collection - containing c.1400 titles on issues such as immigration, minority communities, race relations, racism and discrimination, education, housing and policing in the United Kingdom.
  • Anti-fascist and Black British ephemera - containing documents from the late 1960s to the early 1970s published by grassroots and community organisations.
  • UK pamphlets and ephemera - containing over 120 boxes of pamphlet material on all aspects of race relations in UK, including evidence to government inquiries, community political material, research reports on education, housing, racial violence, policing, 1958, 1981 and 1985 riots.
  • Periodicals Collection - containing runs of c.250 journals, including some Black Power and anti-colonial materials and back issues of the West Indian Gazette, Magnet, West Indies Observer, etc.
  • United States Book Collection - containing c.1800 titles covering all aspects of race in the USA.

  • Racial Violence (e.g. racially motivated violence and harassment, racially motivated murders)
