Title: Institute of Latin American Studies Library: Latin American Political Pamphlets
Description: This collection comprises over 2000 political pamphlets from Latin America and elsewhere which were mainly acquired from the former Contemporary Archive on Latin America (CALA) in 1981. The original CALA gift was augmented by a further 400 pamphlets after 1981, mainly written in English, Spanish and Portuguese, with some French and German texts.
Strengths: The strength of this collection is its large number of non-academic pamphlets from 'grassroots' organisations in Latin America and Caribbean. The main subjects covered include: Politics, Human rights, Religion, Trades unions, Women, Indigenous affairs. Chile and Brazil are the two countries most strongly represented in the collection. Caribbean material includes Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the circum-Caribbean.
