Administrative/Biographical history: Most of the records deposited by the Trustees of the Bingham Library came originally from the office of Timothy Stevens junior, who succeeded his father Timothy as parish clerk in 1816, and died in 1839. They form part of a large collection of Cirencester material which was presented to the Bingham Library in 1923 by George A H White of Chippenham (Wilts). A letter accompanying this gift is quoted in the Bingham Library Annual Report for 1923-4: They belonged to...Mr. Timothy Stevens, a solicitor of Cirencester, who died in 1839. They seem then to have gone to my father, the late G.S. White, at Fairford, who was at one time in Mr. Stevens' office, and remained there until 1886. On my father's death...they were still preserved, tied up in large bundles, and have been in my possession unpacked till quite recently...
