Scope and content: This collection comprises 172 records relating to the formation and liquidation of the Evan Thomas Radcliffe & Co. Cardiff-based shipping company. The collection is divided into three main types of records: (1) the personal records and private ledgers of the Evan Thomas Radcliffe shipping company; (2) company papers covering records relating to voyages undertaken between 1908-1965, correspondence files (c.1948-1953) and information about crew and passengers carried between 1885-1954; (3) records of the individual shipping companies owned by Evan Thomas Radcliffe & Co. Ltd. Covering information about accounts and shipping insurance. Particular items of note are files 42-47 within the 'Records relating to voyages, 1908-1965, comprising 6 indexed cargo books. Entries arranged by name of ship, with details about the date of each voyage, names of the port of departure and port of arrival and descriptions of the cargo carried on each voyage. Also, of the 27 steam ship companies listed in the records of individual shipping companies owned by Evan Thomas Radcliffe & Co. Ltd. there is a file entitled 'Colonies Shipping Company Ltd. Of Bristol, 1908-1911' (Ref: D/D ETR 170/1-11).

Visitors are advised to contact the Office in advance to reserve a place in the searchroom.
