Scope and content: Sangeeta Redgrave’s photographs document Diwali – the Hindu Festival of Lights – and the festivities and events in the month leading up to it and the Gujarati New Year. Diwali is celebrated through a number of events ranging from fasting and prayers for health and prosperity, dancing, and the lighting of small oil lamps in households to public firework displays. Redgrave’s photographs record the communal events held within the Laxmi Narayan Mandir and its adjoining community hall
