One article in the paper begins,' In my last talk, you will remember I told you that the Colonial Office are starting Hostels for African seamen at the various ports in England. Well in North Shields, not far away from Newcastle, another African House will soon be opened by the colonial office. This was brought about by an African for the uplift of his race. I shall tell you abour him in aminute or two. Mr C.U.Minto, an ex-boxer from Calibar, Nigeria, founded in North Shields an Internatinal Coloured Mutual Aid Association. The society has a working committee of members from Lagos, Nigeria, Barbados and Sierra Leone. The real object of the society is to get good understanding between the white and coloured people.
