- CONTENT AND STRUCTURE AREA
- Scope and content: Hair is the subject is a particular passion of the photographer's, Pablo Menfesawes, whose striking collection of black and white photos celebrate the impact and versatility of African hairstyles. His models have been plucked from the streets and many are representatives of the nineties revival for going natural. Everything from greying locks, chiney bumps and elaborately shaved designs are on offer. Black women with shaven heads have become walking political statements, and these are juxtaposed with pictures of Japanese youths, representing a growing sub-culture, who have adopted African hairstyles.
The exhibition has been shown at the Tabernacle Gallery in Notting Hill and at Brixton Art Gallery. The collection is part of a number of Exhibition Collections for hire. In some cases, it is possible to make selections of images from within the exhibition.
