CONTENT AND STRUCTURE AREA
Scope and content: The special groups are: women, polish camps, immigrants, retired people. It includes booklet 'Colour and Conscience - A Study of Race Relations in Birmingham' by John Darragh. The material on 'black immigrants' is also in the form of correspondence between the WEA and the Director of Education, Mr H.A.Jenkin, the direct aim being the desire of the WEA to help provide solutions to the issues facing the newcomers. Contact was also made to the Migrant Services Division of the High Commission of the West Indies. Also in this file is a pamphlet 'The West Indian Immigrant -A survey' by the Wolverhampton Fabian Society. Areas looked include: occupations, reasons for emigrating, feelings towards settling in the UK, training and recreation. This survey was conducted in 1957.
